Supporting people, communities and Australian manufacturing
CR Labs has manufactured optical lenses in Australia since 1976. From our beginnings in South Yarra to our manufacturing facility in Dandenong South, Victoria, we have remained an independent, Australian-owned family business. We support Australian jobs, independent optometry and community organisations through local manufacturing, professional education and community involvement.

Our Dandenong South facility brings together a skilled local team and advanced lens manufacturing technology.
Manufacturing locally supports Australian jobs, local suppliers and specialised optical manufacturing skills. It also gives us direct oversight of our manufacturing processes and quality standards.
Our teams work with independent optical practices across Australia, providing local service, professional education and technical assistance.

Environmental considerations form part of our manufacturing processes, packaging choices and product development.
Our current initiatives include:

CR Labs supports community organisations through lens donations, fundraising and staff involvement.
We have donated lenses to St Patrick’s Community Support Centre to assist people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.
Through our support of Deadly Eyes, we have contributed lenses to help improve access to vision care in Indigenous communities.
We have also supported Rural Aid’s work with farmers and regional communities affected by drought and bushfires.
Following the East Gippsland bushfires, CR Labs employees volunteered with BlazeAid to help remove damaged fencing and rebuild fences for affected communities.

CR Labs contributes to university optometry education through on-campus training sessions, presentations and events.
Members of our Professional Services team visit universities to share practical knowledge about lens materials, lens design and optical solutions. Sessions have included hypothetical patient case studies and hands-on activities involving optical tools and materials, giving students the opportunity to consider how different lens options may be applied in practice.
These sessions help students understand how lens materials and designs are used in practice as they prepare to enter the optical profession.
